E140: LK-99, Sclerotic establishments, Fitch downgrades US debt, Trump indicted... again

Bestie intros! LK-99 breakdown. Funding landscape for breakthrough science, sclerotic establishments, boomer incumbents. Fitch downgrades US debt rating. Trump's newest indictment.

The First Room-Temperature Ambient-Pressure Superconductor

For the first time in the world, we succeeded in synthesizing the room-temperature superconductor (Tc ≥ 400 K, 127 oC) working at ambient pressure with a modified lead-apatite (LK-99) structure.

Superconductor showing levitation at room temperature and atmospheric pressure and mechanism

For over 110 years since Onnes's 1911 discovery of superconductivity, scientists have searched for room-temperature superconductors, materials that exhibit zero resistance to electrical current.

Will the LK-99 room temp, ambient pressure superconductivity pre-print replicate before 2025?

In the absence of overwhelming expert consensus (see below about resolution caveats), adding materials not in the original synthesis or characterization (replacing Cu with Au, Ag, etc) will not count toward a YES resolution.

Report to the Secretary of the Treasury from the Treasury Borrowing Advisory Committee

Since the TBAC last convened in early May, two-year Treasury yields are about 100 basis points higher while ten-year Treasury yields have increased by around 40 basis points.
