The Shield Protects the Crown: W.O.E. is a watch snob-or at least I was. For years, I looked down on Tudor as an inferior tool watch existing in the shadow of its big brother Rolex. I never understood why someone with a Rolex would purchase a Tudor.

With fewer folks in the chain that needed to wet their beaks, the value was passed onto the final buyer along with a special twist. When your company has less than 1,000 customers, you need to make sure that they get what they want. Otherwise, you're not keeping the lights on.

The steel models feature pattern dials in white, black, or green blue. Holding those watches in the hand brings shades of the Aquanaut and certainly fits the modern trend of re-exploring the integrated bracelet sports watch.

Titanium case, titanium bracelet, in-house movement - yada yada yada - that's all great, but the star of the show is the cultural icon hanging out at six o'clock. That's right, we've got Kermit the Frog here, popping up once a month in place of the numeral "1" to make the first of the month.

Now, in less than five months, we've gotten two watches from the Crown cased in RLX Titanium (a grade 5 titanium). The first was last year's 50mm Deep Sea Special, the mega dive watch that obliterated the water-resistance record.

So much of the fun of working in this business is the excitement leading up to a trade show like Watches & Wonders. We love to predict, to anticipate. And we do - and I did. If you read our predictions post ahead of the show you'll see a lead image of a solid gold GMT-Master II on a jubilee bracelet.

Rolex has even added machine-applied Côtes de Genève Rolex finishing to the bridges. The even bigger story is that you can see these on the platinum Daytona through a sapphire caseback, a first for a Rolex sport watch.

The Carrera enters its seventh decade with a midsized case and cool, modern confidence.

The new SUB 200 C-GRAPH II watch is a contemporary dive watch that comes with a mechanical automatic chronograph for tracking dive times. It has a 42mm diameter and a 15.85mm thickness, made of high-quality stainless steel. The dial has a luminous sunburst effect and is covered with scratch-resistant sapphire crystal.

As I said in my original Intro, this will undoubtedly bring a new balance to the Black Bay line and offer specific appeal to those who either prefer a genuinely smaller dive watch or those who want a modern and robust Tudor that still feels like vintage.

This is also Tudor is doing what it does best: giving a nod to both history and fans alike. As Tony mentioned in his introduction, this new "opaline" dial is a callback to the mythical (and questionably authentic) "albino" Rolex GMT-Master reference 6542 .

It's new watch season as we approach Watches & Wonders, which means we are starting to see novelties trickle out from brands across the horological spectrum. Sinn is the latest to announce its newness with a flagship novelty for 2023 (so far at least): The T50.
